Data is the foundation for businesses as it provides insights into customer behaviour and trends, as well as business performance and efficiency. So, businesses have the tools they need to make informed decisions and plan strategically. For businesses that are just starting out or that are smaller, data is a catalyst to help identify growth opportunities, optimise resources and streamline operations. For larger organisations, data is there to help growth and maximise resources, but it can also drive innovation and enhance their competitive edge.
By managing and analysing data, businesses can prepare for, react and adapt to the changing economic climate and market conditions. Not to mention, meet customer needs and establish that all-important competitive edge. Without reliable data, businesses risk falling behind and missing critical opportunities for success. Data can lead to growth, profitability and customer satisfaction; all pillars that are necessary for a successful business. There is an increasing reliance on technology, so the importance of securing data is pivotal.
Server backups are your digital safety net and a comprehensive solution for data protection; ensuring your valuable data is not lost due to any circumstance such as hardware issues, cyber-attacks, accidental deletions or power cut issues. Businesses can be reassured that by ensuring they have a server backup procedure in place, they are protected. Within this post, we explore further the role and importance of server backups, the various types of server backups available and their benefits, so you know how to protect your data at all costs.
Role of Server Backups
Server back ups are designed to ensure businesses can recover lost data quickly and without affecting productivity; ensuring operations continue as usual without significant interruptions. This is important for all businesses, but particularly important for those that handle sensitive information as data issues and breaches can lead to severe reputational damage, trust and potential financial implications. Cyber threats are at the forefront of many businesses’ minds, due to their increasing sophistication and the potential for significant damage. Data is a critical asset, so investing in a reliable and robust server backup is a wise decision and will provide you with a digital safety net and prevent impactful loss.
An essential element for data protection; server backups create copies of your data at intervals you decide, ensuring your most recent data is safe, protected and available if you ever need it. Backups can be used in the event of corruption, error, loss, damage or cyberattacks and businesses that invest in server backups can quickly restore data, limiting the impact of downtime. This process not only secures critical information but also helps maintain operations as usual, allowing businesses to recover smoothly from unexpected data loss incidents and continue with minimal interruption.
Types of Server Backups
At catalyst2 we understand our clients have different requirements and needs, and therefore we offer two different types of server backups;
- Off-Site Backup
As the name suggests, this type of backup involves storing data at a physically separate location from the primary server. This is hugely beneficial as it protects against data loss due to physical disasters like fires, floods, or theft. At catalyst2, our daily backups are held securely off-site for a standard seven days. However, we can keep them for months, depending on your requirements. Our off-site backups are performed using R1Soft’s CDP software allowing very granular restores, which means we can restore any file that existed on your server in the last seven days within a few minutes.
- Full Server Backup
This type of backup makes copies of all the data from a server. It is a comprehensive snapshot of your entire system, data and applications, and guarantees all data is captured and protected. Our full server backups are taken weekly meaning you can roll the whole server back to the position it was in when the backup was taken; to any VMware server, offering another level of disaster recovery should it be required. Our VMware technology also allows us to digitally take a “snapshot” of the server before any major upgrades, just in case things don’t go to plan. So, we can swiftly and easily get access to everything that was there before.
Our Managed Dedicated Servers
At catalyst2, we offer robust managed dedicated servers that guarantee your data is kept safe and secure. Managed solutions are a bit like having a spare pair of hands, day and night, keeping your applications running smoothly. Our platform has been built to be reliable and secure, meaning you can continue to concentrate on your business knowing your data is safe.
